Aid to Publishers – 2021-2022 Funding Cycle

The 2021-2022 Application Guidelines and application form for the Aid to Publishers component of the Canada Periodical Fund (CPF) are now available at

This is the first in a five-year plan to modernize the  Canada Periodical Fund and as such the guidelines have changed.

Main changes to the Aid to Publishers component:

  • For print periodicals, applications will now be evaluated based on the following formula:
    • Total number of eligible copies circulated
    • Eligible editorial expenditures
  •  Print paid periodicals no longer need to have sold at least 50% of copies consisting of subscription copies, single-copy/newsstand copies and sponsored copies (free periodicals are still ineligible).
  • A new subcomponent to fund digital-only periodicals.

The deadline to submit your application is December 8, 2020.  Please note that an application postmarked or stamped after the application deadline will not be accepted. When an application deadline falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, it is extended to the following working day.

Canadian Heritage has set service standards for the timely delivery of its funding programs. Our goal is to issue a written notification of the funding decision within a 30-week timeline applied as of the program’s deadline.
