Submit Your Editors Canada Webinar Proposal

Editors Canada is known for delivering high-quality training for editors and other communication professionals at every stage of their careers. After two successful webinar seasons, Editors Canada is now inviting proposals from experienced speakers for the 2018–19 season.

Editors Canada is looking for proposals from qualified editors and consultants to prepare and present webinars or programs of webinars in English and/or French. They are interested in all proposals; however, here are some specific topics to consider:

Core skills

  • Comparative editing
  • Copy editing
  • Fundamentals of editing
  • Proofreading
  • Structural editing
  • Stylistic editing

Business skills

  • Managing the business side of editing (such as tax preparation, financial planning, billing, insurance)
  • Managing people or projects
  • Estimating and quoting
  • Negotiating contract terms
  • Preparing bios, resumés and online profiles

Specialized skills

  • Working with Indigenous authors and Indigenous themes, practices, and styles
  • Content management
  • Copyright and permissions
  • Editing for sensitivity
  • Editing for accessibility and UX
  • Editing tables, charts, and other data visualizations and graphics
  • Editing ESL and FSL material
  • Editing machine-translated text
  • Fact checking
  • Food editing
  • Information design or architecture
  • Literary editing
  • Numeracy for editors
  • Proofreading digital material—practices and standards
  • SEO and analytics
  • STEM editing

Tools

  • Collaborative software (e.g., Google Docs)
  • Editorial software (e.g., Antidote, Editor’s Toolkit)
  • Informational and instructional resources (e.g., style guides)
  • Microsoft Word templates, macros, and styles

Editors Canada webinars are informational and educational. Webinars should be 60–90 minutes in length (or longer webinars that can be broken up into shorter sessions if you would like more time for your topic). Instructors will be offered a flat fee based on webinar length, a bonus for high enrolment, and a portion of the sales of recordings.

If you have a session to present that would fit this format, complete the webinar proposal form and send it to the director of training and development at Director_Training@editors.ca no later than Friday, September 14. Please include only one webinar proposal per form.
