Investigative reporters who once used print documents are increasingly turning to electronic data to research stories. In this online session, Glen McGregor showcases stories journalists are developing using electronic records, breaking news on subjects as diverse as parking tickets, medical marijuana applications, faulty gas pumps and students grades. He’ll discuss how new stories can emerge from thousands of lines of texts and numbers, and introduce the tools and techniques of data journalism that today’s journalists can use to accelerate their stories.
Glen McGregor is an award-winning national affairs reporter, formerly with the Ottawa Citizen. He is a leading advocate for data journalism in Canada, and has taught data skills to journalism students at Algonquin College. He regularly leads hands-on data sessions for the Canadian Association of Journalists.
