Katharina Doyle, Creative Scrapbooker – President
Katharina Doyle is the owner of Canadian Scrapbooker Inc. and co-founder and publisher of Creative Scrapbooker magazine. Creative Scrapbooker has been publishing quarterly since 2005, and offers inspirational paper crafting ideas and techniques to readers around the world. With a strong background in business, dreams of becoming an entrepreneur, and a passion for scrapbooking, it was the perfect way for Katharina to leave her 12-year corporate career and work from home. Katharina obtained her business degree at the University of Alberta and was awarded the AMPA 2017 Achievement in Publishing award.
M.L. Ellen Percival, Calgary’s Child Magazine – Vice President
M.L. Ellen Percival is the co-founder, editor and publisher-in-chief of the multiple award-winning parenting publication Calgary’s Child Magazine. Since it first hit the newsstands in 1994, Ellen’s vision has made Calgary’s Child an innovative, free and easily-accessed network of support connecting and informing parents in the Calgary area. Widely recognized for her work ethic, positive attitude and innovative strategic thinking, Ellen, a Women of Vision recipient, brings both a fresh and informed perspective to the issues that shape the lives of Calgary’s families.
Dan Clapson, Eat North
Dan Clapson is the co-founder and creative director of Eat North, a Prairie-based food media and events company, and The Globe and Mail restaurant critic/columnist for the Canadian Prairies. Clapson has contributed to many notable online and print publications over the years including Air Canada enRoute, Vice, Ricardo Magazine, Food Network Canada, Avenue, Western Living, Calgary Herald and many more. Clapson is considered to be one of the top authorities on the Canadian restaurant industry and helps to judge a variety of national restaurant awards programs such as Canada’s 100 Best and enRoute’s Canada’s Best New Restaurants lists. He is also a regular guest culinary expert on tv shows like Cityline, Global Calgary, Global Edmonton, CTV Morning Live Saskatoon and more. When Clapson is not writing, eating or traveling across Canada and the globe, he’s probably relaxing at a pub with some friends or watching reruns of Dawson’s Creek.
Lisa Cook, New Trail
Lisa Cook is the Editor-in-Chief at the award-winning University of Alberta’s alumni magazine New Trail and the Associate Director of Communications at the UAlberta’s Office of Advancement Strategic Communications. Having led the magazine for the last seven years, Lisa is credited for her vision, creativity, and mentorship for transforming the 96-year-old alumni magazine into a popular, general-interest publication. Lisa graduated from the University of Regina with Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications, English, and Political Science, and was named 2017 Editor of the Year at the Alberta Magazine Awards.
Cecilia Hyslop, Treasurer
Cecilia Hyslop brings more than 20 years of accounting experience. Cecilia has gained extensive accounting experience through various progressive accounting positions in different industries in Romania and Canada with responsibilities in financial reporting, developing budgets and forecasts, variance analysis and departmental policies and procedures. She is focused on process improvements and increasing efficiency. Since she came in Canada, she specialized in the Real Estate sector and obtained her CPA, CGA designation in 2015 from CPA Alberta.
Elaine Kupser, Impact
Elaine Kupser is the founder, Publisher and CEO of Impact Magazine. She has been a significant force in positioning Calgary both provincially and nationally as a city that promotes individual well-being through health, fitness and sport. Her ceaseless contribution to both the magazine publishing and fitness industries has spanned 29 years, making Impact one of the longest-standing, independently and female-owned magazines in Canada. Since 1991 Elaine’s mandate has been to publish cutting-edge, expert advice from the best experts in their fields for those who aspire to higher levels of health, fitness and performance. The magazine has now built a national network that connects the best experts from across Canada (and beyond), who provide the most relevant information on fitness, preventative health, nutrition, and sport performance with key distribution and readership in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto. Elaine was the Alberta Achievement in Publishing recipient in 2013.
Kim Larson, EDIFY
Kim Larson is an industry-leading art director whose 15-year career has been marked by a combination of versatility and creativity throughout the province. Kim is the art director of EDIFY, LEAP magazine, HERE magazine (University Hospital Foundation) and Eighteen Bridges. She previously worked as art director of AVENUE Edmonton and art director for Venture Publishing, where she guided Alberta Venture, Alberta Oil and Eighteen Bridges magazines to numerous high-profile provincial and national magazine awards. Kim recently art directed several award winning photo shoots in Applied Arts magazine. She is passionate about all things magazines.
Matthew Stepanic, Glass Buffalo
Matthew Stepanic is the editor and co-founder of Glass Buffalo, the poetry editor for Eighteen Bridges, and a freelance writer and editor. He has also served on the board of the Edmonton Poetry Festival since 2014. He is a co-author of the collaborative novel, Project Compass (Monto Books, 2017), and the author of Relying on that Body (Glass Buffalo Publishing, 2018). In 2015, FIPP named him one of the Top 3 Rising Stars in Media Under 30. Alongside Jason Purcell, he manages Glass Bookshop, Edmonton’s newest bookstore.
Rob Tanner, Canadian Cowboy Country
Rob Tanner is the owner of Tanner Young Publishing Group, which produces several long-running titles – WHERE Edmonton Magazine, Info Edmonton City Guide, Alberta Meeting and Event Guide, and Canadian Cowboy Country. Rob is former president of the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association and received AMPA’s Achievement in Publishing Award in 2011 and was AMPA’s Volunteer of the Year – Mags Canada in 2009.

Suzanne Trudel, Executive Director
Suzanne Trudel has been promoting the province’s vibrant magazine media industry as AMPA’s executive director since 2011. Previously, she worked with journalism students as a college media advisor and publisher. She currently serves as a director for the Book and Periodical Council, an umbrella organization for writing and publishing in Canada, and for the Amber Webb Bowerman Memorial Foundation, a grassroots foundation that has raised more than $100,000 in awards and scholarships for emerging writers and journalists. She is a past juror for numerous magazine awards program, a past member of SAIT’s Journalism Advisory Committee, and past Chair of the Reflector Publications Society board at Mount Royal University.
Kiley Pole, Communications & Events Coordinator
Kiley Pole has worked with magazines from across Canada for over three years. After completing her Masters Degree in Publishing Studies at the University of Stirling, she began her career working in ebooks and then transitioned to working with magazines. Reading in all of its forms is a passion of Kiley’s, and she has become an avid subscriber. Previously Kiley worked at Magazines Canada where she supported members through professional development and events. She is excited to learn more about the Alberta magazine community.
