Shauna McGinn

 Calgary, AB

Shauna McGinn is a journalist and writer with an interest in under-covered topics and a talent for capturing the human experience. Shauna has written about things like cybersecurity, the trials of Olympic hopefuls, and healthcare issues for people living with HIV/AIDS. She holds a Master of Journalism from Carleton University, where her work won her the Rachel Elizabeth Edwards Memorial award for promising reporters and the Peter Buckley scholarship for excellence in writing.

An initial version of her master’s research project on social work and mental health was published in THIS magazine. Her work has also appeared in the Ottawa Citizen, University Affairs magazine and the Low Down – a weekly paper in Wakefield, Quebec, where she spent six weeks chasing rock bands and people living off-grid. She is currently a fact-checker for Zoomer magazine. Shauna has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Global Development from Queen’s University.
